[PSP Tricks #1] Play imported games
The PSP isn’t just for games, as I’m sure a lot of you know. But from the comments and emails (ewanspence@gmail.com) coming in there are a lot of you that aren’t getting the full value from the PSP - and that’s before you look at the homebrew scene! So, alongside the podcasts, I’m going to run a series of blog posts of PSP Tips and Tricks.
So, #1, Playing Imported Games.
Yes your PSP has a region encoding, but this doesn’t apply to UMD games (except in one circumstance). While UMD Videos have region encoding similar to DVD (ie a US bought UMD video won’t play on a UK PSP), a US game will play on a UK PSP. The only catch is that you can’t play Multiplayer Wi-Fi between regions. So if you have a US copy of Ridge Racer, it won’t multiplayer to a UK copy - check with your friends before diving into the import market. To be honest it’s not a great loss.
